DISABLED/PHYSICALLY IMPAIRED EVACUATION
DISABLED LISTS
Floor Wardens are responsible for maintaining an up-to-date roster of disabled individuals regularly employed on their floor and informing the Tamarac Plaza Management Office of any change to the roster.
A "disabled individual" might best be described as anyone requiring assistance due to the following:
- Hearing impairment
- Speech impairment
- Sight impairment
- Smell impairment
- Mobility impairment
- Pregnancy (beyond the 7th month)
The listing above is not meant to be all-inclusive. However, this list provides a background from which an assessment of disabled individuals may be developed.
It should be noted that some individuals considered to be disabled by others might not consider themselves to be disabled. Therefore, when evaluating employees/visitors for possible disabilities and assignment of disabled monitors, consideration of each individual's feelings is a priority.
The following procedures have been implemented to provide maximum safety for anyone who is disabled.
A.Tenants shall keep a list of all disabled occupants in their office. Please provide the Tamarac Plaza Management Office with the following information (including pregnancies beyond the 7th month):
1. Person's Name
2. Floor
3. Normal Location
4. Department
5. Responsible Fire Warden
6. Description of Disabled Person(s)
7. Name of Personnel Assigned to Disabled Person(s) (Buddy)
B. The Buddy System will be used to relocate disabled individuals.
1. Assigned Buddy will take disabled individual(s) to the stairwell and advise Floor Warden of their location.
2. The Floor Warden will notify the Command Center of their location by calling the Tamarac Plaza Management Office at 303-696-0706.
C. The fire department will relocate the disabled individual(s) and the buddy.
EVACUATION METHODS
The Denver Fire Department is not staffed to provide for mass evacuation of structures. Tamarac Plaza has developed evacuation procedures and methods for employees and visitors to use as required. These procedures and methods rely on the use of a Tenants'on-site staff of employees to act in the capacity of Floor Wardens. The Floor Wardens assigns assistants and various buddies to participate in evacuation proceedings.
A principal person(s) to aid in safe evacuation is the "disabled individual's buddy". An item that the buddy must remember while assisting in the evacuation of disabled people is that all NON-LIFE SUPPORTING equipment, such as wheelchairs, walkers, etc. is to be left behind as it may cause delays in evacuation.
If the buddy is unable to evacuate the disabled person for some reason, the arriving municipal authorities are to be notified IMMEDIATELY of this situation.
